Phish To Close Out '99 With Box Set And December Tour
Before returning to the road for a December tour that will conclude with a New Year's Eve concert/sleepover, Phish will release on Nov. 23 a six-CD box set titled "Hampton Comes Alive" that features two uncut concerts recorded last year at Hampton Coliseum, Hampton, Va.
The set features Phish songs that have appeared on previous albums along with some previously unreleased tracks and covers. The collection is being billed as the first uncut official release of a live Phish performance. Phish allows taping of their shows by audience members in designated areas, and many fans collect and trade audience recordings of shows.
Phish will hit the road on Dec. 2 for an East Coast tour that will take the band to eleven cities. Tickets for many shows are set to go on sale Friday (10/22).
The popular jam band will end 1999 with a festival on the grounds of the Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation in Florida. Phish plans to play one afternoon set and two evening sets on Dec. 30, and will begin a set just before midnight on Dec. 31 that will run until about 7 a.m. on New Year's Day. More information about the event is available on the official Phish website.
The Florida event will mark the fourth consecutive year that Phish has hosted a multi-day festival, a tradition that started with The Clifford Ball in 1996. That event, held on a former Air Force base in Plattsburgh, New York, drew an estimated 75,000 fans.
In 1997 and 1998, similar massive events called ''The Great Went'' and ''Lemonwheel'' took place in Limestone, Maine. The positive impact of those events on the state's economy was applauded by economists, neighbors of the event site and politicians.
