Briefly: Destiny's Child, Melissa Etheridge, Beastie Boys, Hank Williams
Pop/R&B trio Destiny's Child , which recently completed a farewell tour, plans to release a new hits collection on Oct. 25.
Titled "#1's," the set will comprise 13 of the trio's best-selling and highest-charting hits, as well as three new songs, according to a press release. The DualDisc version of the album will include DVD audio versions of all 16 songs mixed in 5.1 surround sound, as well as music videos for seven tracks, and an exclusive trailer featuring scenes from Destiny's Child's forthcoming DVD, "Destiny's Child--Live in Atlanta," which is due out
Melissa Etheridge --who last year was diagnosed with breast cancer--has teamed with Ford Motor Company to release a new song titled "I Run for Life," proceeds from which will benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation and Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation, according to a press release.
The song, which chronicles Etheridge's struggle with the disease and fight toward recovery, will be available for 99 cents via the Ford Cares website.
Capitol Records will mark Beastie Boys ' 24th anniversary with the Nov. 8 release of "Solid Gold Hits," a 15-track collection of previously released material culled from throughout the trio's catalog. Cuts include "No Sleep 'Til Brooklyn," "Fight for Your Right," "Shake Your Rump," "So Wat'cha Want," "Sabotage" and "Ch-Check It Out."
"Turn Back the Years: The Essential Hank Williams Collection," a box set that chronicles the late country legend's career, is scheduled for release on Oct. 11, according to Universal Music Enterprises. The three-CD compilation houses a total of 60 songs, and also includes a 24-page booklet containing an essay and rare photos.
