Pearl Jam, Green Day, CS&N Set For Bridge School Benefit
Neil Young, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Pearl Jam , Billy Corgan and James Iha of Smashing Pumpkins, Sheryl Crow, Green Day , Lucinda Williams and Brian Wilson will be among the performers to take the stage for this year's Bridge School Benefit. The concert is set for Oct. 30-31 at its usual spot, the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, Calif.
The lineup, according to an announcement from BASS Tickets, will also include ''very special guests.'' Tickets will go on sale through BASS at 10 a.m. on Sept. 12. Bridge School performances are typically acoustic.
Young is expected to reunite with former bandmates Crosby, Stills & Nash during the course of the show. A CSNY reunion tour that was tentatively set to begin in July has been pushed back, and is now expected to launch in January. A new album is tentatively scheduled for release on Reprise Records on Oct. 26.
Pearl Jam hasn't performed live since last year's Bridge School benefit. Billboard Online reports that the band has began recording its seventh studio album in Seattle with producer Tchad Blake, and a February 2000 release date is expected.
Corgan and Iha recently completed work on a new Pumpkins album, which is also targeted release in February 2000. The band announced the departure of bassist D'Arcy Wretzky on Thursday (9/9).
Green Day last toured in 1998. The band was scheduled to open five shows for the Rolling Stones earlier this year, but backed out shortly after the dates were announced.
Crow and Williams spent much time on the Lilith Fair this summer, and the normally-reclusive Brian Wilson emerged this year to play a shows this spring and summer.
The concert benefits The Bridge School, which was founded in 1986 by Neil Young's wife, Pegi, and Jim Forderer, two parents of children with severe speech and physical impairments, and Dr. Marilyn Buzolich, the founder and director of Augmentative Communications and Technology Services. The school serves severely speech impaired children throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
