Mae tackles headlining tour this fall
Warped Tour veterans Mae plan to spend the fall working the road behind their sophomore release, "The Everglow."
The extensive tour itinerary will bring the Norfolk, VA-based group--whose name is an acronym for Multisensory Aesthetic Experience--to a variety of mid-sized clubs, and includes stops at the 2005 CMJ Music Marathon, the House of Blues in San Diego and a two-night stand in Orlando, FL.
The band will have a chance to warm up for the run by opening for Weezer and Foo Fighters during the first three dates on those bands' co-headlining jaunt, which kicks off Thursday (9/8) in Atlanta. Details are included in the itinerary below
Released in March, "The Everglow" has sold more than 85,000 copies, thanks in part to the video for the single "Suspension," which was featured on the cable channel Fuse's "Oven Fresh" and "Steven's Untitled Rock Show." The clip is streaming at Tooth & Nail Records' website.
Although "The Everglow" is Mae's second full-length release, the group feels like it's another first album, as its debut set, 2003's "Destination: Beautiful," was more of a studio project than a collective band effort, and "after two years of touring and camaraderie, this band is now a completely unified front," frontman Dave Elkins said in a statement. "These songs and this effort are no less important to any one of us, and seems to really be the first Mae record."
Last month, Mae--which also includes drummer Jacob Marshall, bassist Mark Padgett, keyboardist Rob Sweitzer and guitarist Zach Gehring--sent to stores a DVD titled "From Toledo to Tokyo," which features footage shot by a cameramen followed the band around for a year after "Destination: Beautiful" was released. The disc features live performances, interviews with the band, fan confessionals and "van breakdowns," according to the group's website.
