Sheryl Crow books dates to hype forthcoming album
Singer/songwriter Sheryl Crow will follow the late-September release of her new album, "Wildflower," with a brief U.S. tour in October.
The nine-date run, which focuses on the West, kicks off Oct. 16 in Seattle. A two-night finale in New York City (Oct. 30-31) marks the outing's only East Coast engagement.
Backing Crow on the road will be her four-piece band: guitarists Tim Smith and Peter Stroud, drummer Shawn Pelton, and keyboardist Mike Rowe. Last week, the group put together a 25-song setlist that draws from all five of Crow's studio albums, including "Wildflower," according to A&M Records.
Joining Crow and her bandmates during the trek will be a 12-piece string section led by conductor David Campbell (father of Beck Hansen), who wrote the string arrangements for "Wildflower."
Before tackling her October tour, Crow will make a Sept. 24 appearance at a radio-station festival in Boston, and will give a Sept. 28 acoustic performance at the Virgin Megastore in Times Square, where she'll also be signing copies of "Wildflower." The itinerary is included below.
Crow will follow the U.S. dates with a two-night engagement in London. Details are posted at her website.
Due in stores Sept. 27, "Wildflower" is the follow-up to 2002's "C'mon C'mon." The new album's debut single, "Good is Good," hits radio on Sept. 19.
Crow, who recently became engaged to seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong, is among the artists scheduled to perform during Saturday's (9/10) "ReAct Now: Music and Relief" benefit concert, which will raise funds for victims of Hurricane Katrina. The special will air on MTV, VH1 and CMT.
A nine-time Grammy winner, Crow has sold a worldwide total of about 25 million records, according to her label. That tally comprises sales of her previous four studio albums, as well as her 2003 greatest-hits collection.
