Kanye West, Maroon 5, others to play free NFL concert

The National Football League plans to kick off its upcoming season with a free concert in Los Angeles that will feature performances by Kanye West , Maroon 5 , Good Charlotte and Rhianna.

Set for Sept. 8, the event will take place at the Los Angeles Coliseum, chosen because of its history as the site of the NFL's first Super Bowl. Gates will open at 2:30 p.m., and "music and festivities" will run until 6 p.m., according to a press release.

Portions of the event will air live from 5-6 p.m. PT on ABC's "NFL Opening Kickoff," and will lead into the season-opener between the Super Bowl-champion New England Patriots and the Oakland Raiders. "NFL Opening Kickoff" will also feature video footage from The Rolling Stones' "A Bigger Bang" world tour.

Musical performances are planned during ABC's broadcast of the Patriots vs. Raiders game, as well, which will take place at the Patriots' Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA. Green Day and Santana are both slated to perform, and Trisha Yearwood will sing the national anthem.

The Sept. 8 "NFL Opening Kickoff" will be preceded by a Sept. 7 event at the Los Angeles Coliseum dubbed "NFL Kickoff Celebration," which will include a "Celebrity Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick event, football clinics and a health fair for local youths," according to organizers.
