Trey Anastasio unveils details of first post-Phish album
Former Phish frontman Trey Anastasio has nailed down a Nov. 1 release date for his first new studio collection since Phish disbanded last year.
The forthcoming set features 12 new songs, on which Anastasio handled all guitar parts and lead vocals. Producer Brendan O'Brien (Pearl Jam, Neil Young), meanwhile, played bass and keyboards, and contributed some background vocals, and drummer Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp, Bob Dylan) manned the kit for several tracks.
"Shine" is the first album of Anastasio's career--to include his Phish days--for which he was the sole lyricist, according to Anastasio's new label, Columbia Records.
"It's a thrill to be on Columbia Records," Anastasio said in a statement. "Columbia has been home to a lot of my favorite artists--like Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, and Bruce Springsteen--and it feels great to be working with people who really understand what I'm trying to do and allow me the freedom to go in new musical directions. I'm very proud of the way Shine has turned out and I hope everyone enjoys listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it."
Columbia plans to issue the disc in traditional CD format, and as a DualDisc that will include DVD content such as the full album in PCM Stereo, live footage from Anastasio's Aug. 13 concert at Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheatre, behind-the-scenes footage of rehearsals at Red Rocks and an exclusive interview with Anastasio.
Before the album hits stores, Anastasio will play several September and October concerts, including appearances at the Bumbershoot and Vegoose festivals, as well as a pair of opening performances for The Rolling Stones.
