My Morning Jacket suits up for fall tour
Rock outfit My Morning Jacket hits the road in October to back its forthcoming album, which lands in stores that same month.
The new studio set, titled "Z," is scheduled for release on Oct. 4. Two days later, the band launches a headlining trek that is currently scheduled to run through mid-November. The itinerary is included below.
Kathleen Edwards will open all but one of the October dates; Saul Williams signs on for the group's Halloween show in Boulder, CO, and remains on board for the November stops.
Recorded in upstate New York with producer John Leckie, "Z" is My Morning Jacket's first album with new members Bo Koster (keys) and Carl Broemel (guitar); the two replaced original members Danny Cash and Johnny Quaid, respectively, who quit the group in January of last year.
"We loved them immediately," singer/guitarist/songwriter Jim James said of his new bandmates in the group's current record-company bio. "It was like the band was its own force, wanting itself to go on, even down to finding these two people."
With Koster and Broemel in tow, the Louisville, KY-based quintet aimed to make "Z" a departure from its previous works.
"We wanted to make a record that grooved and swung, but wasn't trying to imitate classic soul," James said. "We wanted to keep an aspect of what we'd always done, but also make something you could dance to or listen to while driving home. Hip-hop and soul music are unifying people right now. I wanted to incorporate that into our music; to make this really sad, mysterious kind of dance music, something that really got into your butt, but also really got into your head and made you think."
