Steve Winwood works the road, readies live DVDs
Steve Winwood takes another swing through the U.S. this fall, and is gearing up for the release of two live DVDs, one of which was shot during Traffic's final tour.
Winwood, who wrapped up his most recent U.S. jaunt in early July, kicks off the new round of shows Sept. 20 in New York City, and is currently scheduled to work the theater circuit through mid-October. Details are included below.
The same day the tour launches, Epic Records will issue "The Last Great Traffic Jam." The film follows Traffic--Winwood, the late Jim Capaldi and a four-piece backing band--during its tour behind its 1994 reunion album, "Far from Home." In addition to performance footage, the DVD will also feature "candid and intimate footage shot backstage, on the tour bus, at soundcheck and in formal interviews," according to a press release.
Also due out soon is the DVD version of Winwood's 2004 appearance on PBS's "Soundstage" live-performance series. A recent message posted at Winwood's website says that the disc "should be available for release in the middle of August," but no specific release date has been announced.
Winwood, whose most recent studio set is 2003's "About Time," was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 as a member of Traffic, a group best known for its work in the late-'60s/early '70s. Capaldi, who was on hand for the induction ceremony, died of stomach cancer in January.
