Briefly: Faith Hill, Snoop Dogg, Marc Cohn, Beanie Sigel
Hill's No. 1 debut pushes the hits compilation "NOW! That's What I Call Music, Vol. 19," to No. 2 on the chart, after a two-week residency at No. 1.
Mariah Carey's still-hot "The Emancipation of Mimi" remains at No. 3 on the chart, while Young Jeezy's "Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101" falls from No. 2 to No. 4, according to Billboard.
Teairra Mari's "Roc-A-Fella Presents Teairra Mari" makes its debut at No. 5.
A makeup artist who accused rapper Snoop Dogg and some of his associates of drugging and raping her following a 2003 taping of ABC-TV's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" has dropped her lawsuit.
According to published reports, the woman's attorney has asked that the suit be dismissed without prejudice, meaning that it cannot be re-filed. A publicist for Snoop Dogg told the Associated Press that the rapper paid "absolutely no money in the settlement," and that "the matter has been resolved amicably."
Snoop Dogg had filed a countersuit against the woman, claiming that she was trying to extort $5 million from him.
Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Marc Cohn was shot in the temple during a carjacking late Sunday (8/7) in Denver. Police have arrested the man they believe fired the shot, as well as a suspected accomplice.
Cohn was released from the hospital Monday (8/8), but has postponed the remaining dates on his summer tour.
Rapper Beanie Sigel was released Tuesday (8/9) from a federal prison in New Jersey, where he was serving out his sentence for a federal gun charge.
