Styx, REO Speedwagon plot more joint concerts

Classic rockers Styx [ tickets ] and REO Speedwagon [ tickets ], who have toured together frequently in recent years, will once again join forces for a series of summer and fall co-headlining dates.

The bands first link up later this month for a pair of shows in upstate New York, and are then scheduled to tackle a dozen co-headlining dates that span from early September through mid-October.

Both groups will work in the joint shows between stops on their individual headlining runs, which are already in progress. Details are included below.

Styx is backing its May release, "Big Bang Theory." The covers set houses 14 cuts, including the group's renditions of The Who's "I Can See for Miles," Jimi Hendrix's "Manic Depression," The Beatles' "I Am the Walrus" and The Lovin' Spoonful's "Summer in the City." Also featured is a new studio version of Styx's 1978 hit "Blue Collar Man."

REO Speedwagon's most recent collection of all-new material is 1996's "Building the Bridge." The group has been in the studio working on a follow-up set that is tentatively expected to surface next spring, according to the band's website.
