'N Sync's "No Strings Attached" Shatters Single-Week Sales Mark

'N Sync's second album "No Strings Attached" shattered the first-week album sales record set by Backstreet Boys' "Millennium," selling slightly more than 2.4 million copies, according to Jive Records' sales department. "No Strings Attached" more than doubled "Millennium's" previous first-week sales record of 1.13 million copies, set in May 1999.

First-day sales of the new 'N Sync album exceeded one million copies, according to estimates in industry publications and a statement issued by the group's tour sponsor. SoundScan, a computerized sales tracking system, does not collect data on single day sales.

The label originally shipped 4.2 million copies of the album to retailers. After major chains reported that they were running out of the album, Jive made an additional shipment, but number of additional copies shipped was not available.

Tickets for most dates on the group's 40-city tour on sale March 25. Shows in Biloxi, Little Rock, Houston, Dallas, Kansas City, Joliet and Cleveland are sold out, according to tour promoter SFX Entertainment. Tickets have not sold out in some cities where the shows were booked at large-capacity stadiums. Ticket prices are also higher than last year's tour.

'N Sync will host the Wango Tango 2000 radio festival at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on May 13, which is being ticketed by Tickets.com. The group will not be performing.

''No Strings Attached'' is the group's first for Jive since leaving former label RCA Records last September and settling the lawsuit that RCA's parent company BMG Entertainment brought against the group and its new label.
