'N Sync Ramps Up Promotion For Second Album
Teen band 'N Sync is planning a thorough round of television appearances and Internet promotions for its long-awaited second album, "No Strings Attached," which hits the street on March 21.
Before the album's release, the group will appear on the following TV shows: ''Total Request Live'' (March 8), ''Saturday Night Live'' (March 11), ''Ultra Sound'' (March 18), ''Good Morning America'' (March 13), a Snick special (March 18) and ''The Rosie O'Donnell Show'' (March 20). The group will perform two songs on SNL, but the songs haven't been selected yet, according to Zomba, the parent recording group that owns 'N Sync's label Jive Records.
When the album is released, the group will appear on ''Total Request Live'' again, where the group's ''Bye, Bye, Bye'' video has been number one for the last week. The cut was the most added song at 200 Top 40 stations in its first week at radio, beating Backstreet Boys ' previously held record of 145 stations.
Other post-release TV appearances include Nickelodeon's ''All That'' (March 25), ABC's ''The View'' (March 27) and ''The Tonight Show with Jay Leno'' (April 4).
A performance at the Academy Awards on March 26 is still under discussion, according to Zomba.
On the online front, the group plans to continue using the www.byebyebye.com site as the hub of streaming material, but will not offer any downloadable tracks.
On March 1, Amplified.com will stream a remix of ''Bye, Bye, Bye,'' in addition to 30-second clips of four other songs on the album: "It's Gonna Be Me," "Just Got Paid," "This I Promise You" and "It Makes Me Ill.'' Other tracks on ''No Strings Attached'' include two songs co-written by 'N Sync member JC Chasez (''Digital Get Down'' and ''Space Cowboy'') and one co-written by Justin Timberlake (''Good For You'').
Other online promotions include a videotaped ''ecommercial,'' which will be distributed to fans through the 'N Sync mailing list during the second week of March. (Fans can sign up on the www.byebyebye.com site.) During the third week of March, Alloy.com will hold a contest for free concert tickets to the group's North American summer tour, which will start in May. Locations and onsale dates have not been announced.
'N Sync has also started a new ''street team,'' which is a fan club that is supposed to place 'N Sync song and video requests to radio stations and video channels, and to direct new fans to 'N Sync's website. To sign up for the street team newsletter, fans can visit http://www.onelist.com/community/NsyncNoStringsAttchd.
