Dwight Yoakam backs new album with roadwork
Country singer Dwight Yoakam 's in-progress tour behind his recently released album, "Blame the Vain," is now scheduled to run through the end of the summer.
Yoakam's itinerary currently features stops at a mix of clubs, theaters and casinos. Details are included below.
Released last month, "Blame the Vain" features the cut "Intentional Heartache." The song's music video, which Yoakam directed, is streaming at the singer's website, as are audio samples of additional "Blame the Vain" cuts.
The new album is Yoakam's first for indie label New West, and marks the first time that he self-produced an album without the aid of a co-producer. In the past, Yoakam has teamed with producer and guitarist Pete Anderson.
"I made a lot of great albums with Pete Anderson," Yoakam said in a press release. "Twenty-one years and 17 albums is a long time, but this all came out of a moment in my life where I rediscovered what inspired me the most musically. I talked with Keith Gattis about co-producing this album, but he suggested I should produce it myself. It's a lot of work--wearing a lot of hats. But I really enjoyed it, albeit the enormous workload."
That workload also included playing all of the acoustic rhythm-guitar parts on the set.
"I played the acoustics on this album because I wanted to really base the sound on something that's very primal for me,” Yoakam said. "When I was a kid, I used to fall asleep with the guitar. I'd put my head up against it and just listen to the echo in the box. I'm not the world’s greatest guitar player--probably because I started carrying it around too young to be taught properly. I'm just completely self-taught and reckless about it."
In addition to his musical pursuits, Yoakam--who splits his time between music and acting--has starring roles in two films scheduled for release this year: "Bandidas," with Penelope Cruz and Salma Hayek; and "The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada," directed and starring Tommy Lee Jones. He also has a cameo in the Owen Wilson/Vince Vaughan movie "The Wedding Crashers."
