Foo Fighters, Weezer confirm initial dates

Alt-rock veterans Foo Fighters and Weezer have confirmed the first batch of shows for their recently announced fall co-headlining tour.

The outing is scheduled to launch Sept. 8 in the Atlanta area, and dates and venues also have been announced for the tour's initial stops in two Florida cities and three Texas locales. Ticket on-sale information wasn't available at press time.

As previously reported, shows in San Diego; Phoenix; Denver; Minneapolis; Chicago; Champaign, IL; Grand Rapids, MI; Detroit; Cleveland; Columbus, OH; Baltimore; Worcester, MA; New York; Philadelphia; Fresno, CA; Seattle and Portland, OR are also planned, but details about those dates haven't been confirmed.

Additional cities and support acts will be announced "shortly," according to Foo Fighters' publicist. The trek is expected to run through late October.

Foo Fighters released their fifth album, the two-disc set "In Your Honor," in June. Disc One features hard-edged rockers, while Disc Two largely houses acoustic tracks.

Weezer is backing its new LP "Make Believe," which hit stores in May and debuted at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 album chart.

Prior to the tour with Weezer, Foo Fighters are set to play an August run of Canadian shows.

Weezer, meanwhile, wraps up a three-week North American tour Saturday (7/23) at Lollapalooza in Chicago.
