Clay Aiken's setlists to span rock's history
Without a new album to promote during his upcoming summer tour, vocalist Clay Aiken will instead dot his performances with his renditions of songs from all five decades of the rock era.
"I thought it would be cool to sing a bunch of covers, and relate to everybody," Aiken said in a press release. "There will be songs my mom likes and my grandparents like, and there are a lot of people who love the music of the '70s. I like the '80s, and we're going to have a lot of fun with songs from the '90s."
Aiken's setlists will feature many songs that he's performed in the past, including Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and Neil Sedaka's "Solitaire"; he'll also do a medley of Elvis Presley songs. Songs made popular by Sam Cooke and the Goo Goo Dolls will also get the Aiken treatment, according to RCA Records.
Aiken's hits--as well as some material he plans to record soon for a new album--will be highlighted during the '00s section of the shows.
The summer tour launches July 28 in New Jersey, and runs for more than a month.
The outing is Aiken's first since a late-2004 holiday run that backed his most recent release, last November's "Merry Christmas with Love." That set followed his 2003 solo debut, "Measure of a Man," which entered The Billboard 200 album chart at No. 1 and spawned 2003's top-selling single, "This Is the Night," as well as the hit "The Way."
