John Mayer Trio unveils inaugural tour
The John Mayer Trio--which features singer/songwriter Mayer along with veteran musicians Steve Jordan (drums) and Pino Palladino (bass)--will mount a coast-to-coast tour of the U.S. later this year.
The five-week headlining run kicks off in early September and includes stops at almost every House of Blues club in the country, as well as visits to other clubs and theaters. The group's plans also include three October dates with The Rolling Stones. Details are included in the itinerary below.
Ray LaMontagne and Joss Stone will appear as special guests at some not-yet-specified "selected shows," and other support acts will be announced, according to a press release.
Mayer, Jordan (Bruce Springsteen, Rolling Stones) and Palladino (The Who, Jeff Beck) made their first public appearance together for a Tsunami-aid segment at this year's Grammy Awards, during which they performed "Daughters," a cut from Mayer's 2003 release, "Heavier Things."
"Steve and I had been doing sessions together, and we were scheduled to do the Tsunami Aid benefit," Mayer said in a press release. "So Steve said, 'I know who we can get--Pino Palladino.' I said, 'I'd love to play with Pino.' Pino came and we rehearsed Jimi Hendrix's 'Bold as Love' for the benefit. And something happened that I had hoped my entire life would happen, which is that thing about how a band got together for the first time, and everyone in the room just knew there was something special."
During the tour, the trio will play a mix of covers, some of Mayer's hits and new material, according to a spokesperson.
