One killed, three wounded at Corrosion of Conformity show
Four people were stabbed Thursday night (6/23)--one fatally--during an altercation at a Corrosion of Conformity performance in Tampa.
According to Tampa police, the incident--which occurred at The Masquerade nightclub--began at about 11:30 p.m., when a dispute broke out between two females in the mosh pit. Several people in the crowd tried to separate the two, but the fracas quickly escalated into a large brawl involving several people.
Witnesses saw Thomas Laskas, 30, stepping back from the fight with obvious stab wounds, and said that the suspect then stabbed the other three victims before waving the knife at others and fleeing the nightclub, police said.
Laskas later died of his injuries at the hospital. His wife, Wendy Laskas, 30, was listed in critical but stable condition at Tampa General Hospital on Friday. A third victim was treated at the hospital and released, and the fourth was treated at the scene and released.
Tampa police are still seeking the suspect, described as a 28-30-year-old, 150-pound, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 white man. He has a shaved head and a reddish-brown goatee and mustache, and was last seen wearing a white tank top.
According to a police press release, investigators are currently "following strong leads." Anyone with information about the crime should contact Tampa police at (813) 276-3200.
"We are stunned and deeply saddened by the brutal stabbings of three people at the Tampa show last night," said a statement posted on Corrosion of Conformity's website on Friday (6/24). "In 20-plus years of gigging, we've never seen anything like this. It's sad that people can't come together for a good time listening to music without something tragic happening. We feel for the families of those attacked and wish success to Tampa law enforcement in their quest to solve this pointless crime."
