Eric Clapton to issue new studio set in August
Eric Clapton will drop a new studio album titled "Back Home"--a set that includes guest appearances by Steve Winwood, John Mayer and Robert Randolph, among others--on Aug. 30.
The collection features a dozen songs, five of which Clapton penned with longtime collaborator Simon Climie, according to Reprise/Duck Records. Among the album's other tracks are George Harrison's "Love Comes to Everyone"; The Spinners' "Love Don't Love Nobody"; a rendition of Stevie Wonder and Syreeta Wright's "I'm Going Left"; and compositions by Vince Gill and Doyle Bramhall II, among others.
"I wanted to make a studio album without quite knowing what it was going to be," Clapton said of the new collection, which was recorded concurrently with last year's "Me and Mr. Johnson," a tribute to bluesman Robert Johnson.
"We kind of resigned ourselves to the fact that it was going to take a long time, but when we got stuck or if it wasn't moving fast enough we'd stop and do a Robert Johnson song. That would clear the air and we'd go back and carry on for the new album. As a result, we ended up with a complete Robert Johnson album first ...."
Clapton is expected to launch a tour behind the new album next year.
