Nevada Prosecutors Drop Charges Against Nikki Sixx
After reviewing videotaped statements made by Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx during an August concert in Las Vegas, prosecutors have decided to drop charges that he tried to incite the crowd to violence.
Police arrested Sixx, whose real name is Frank Carlton Ferrano, following a concert at Mandalay Bay in which he urged security guards to let the crowd have a good time, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
''If you don't want to listen to me, I think you remember the time the kids turned the cop cars upside down,'' Sixx said, allegedly in reference to events at a 1997 Motley Crue concert in Los Vegas. ''We can make that happen, right?''
District Attorney Stewart Bell and Sheriff Jerry Keller, in a joint statement issued Tuesday (9/14), said that Sixx's comments were protected under the First Amendment.
''While offensive, (Sixx's) words are simply a statement of fact, not a call to action,'' the statement said.
Prosecutors also will dismiss charges of obstructing a police officer that were filed against two members of the band's road crew, the newspaper reported.
A charge of battery against a police officer that was against a third roadie will reportedly be pursued. John Gabrielli, 44, allegedly pushed a female police officer while trying to stop Sixx's arrest.
