Producers pull the plug on planned Zooma Tour
"The Zooma Tour was conceived to provide fans with an exceptional musical and entertainment experience," said a statement issued by producers.
"Due to unforeseen circumstances, it has become clear that it would not be possible to provide that experience at the level initially envisioned. Rather than go forward with a tour that falls short of what was conceived, everyone involved has mutually agreed that it is best to cancel the tour altogether."
According to a Billboard.com story, producer Jonathan Mayers said ticket sales for the event were "definitely below everyone's expectations."
The tour was scheduled to launch June 16 in the Philadelphia area, and was to visit more than 30 cities. Refund information is available at the Zooma Tour's website.
Organizers had planned a multi-stage, traveling festival featuring Anastasio, Harper and at least four guest acts on each date. Jurassic 5, Medeski Martin & Wood, Toots & The Maytals, G. Love & Special Sauce, Ray Lamontagne, Galactic, The Black Keys, Gomez, Donavon Frankenreiter, Brazilian Girls and Xavier Rudd were among the 20 to 25 artists that were to rotate through the guest slots.
Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival creators Superfly Productions and A.C. Entertainment organized the outing, which was inspired by Tennessee's annual--and highly successful--Bonnaroo festival.
A statement on Anastasio's website said that the former Phish frontman/guitarist is currently lining up alternate tour plans.
