Briefly: System of a Down, Motley Crue, Whitney Houston, Carole King
System of a Down's "Mezmerize," the first disc of the double album "Mezmerize/Hypnotize," sold 453,000 units during its first week in stores, enough to mark the band's second No. 1 debut on The Billboard 200 album chart, according to Columbia Records.
The "Hypnotize" half of the set is expected to hit stores late this fall.
SOAD's strong debut easily topped the week's No. 2 album, Toby Keith's "Honkytonk University," which sold 283,000 copies. Mariah Carey's "The Emancipation of Mimi" holds steady at No. 3.
The Dave Matthews Band's "Stand Up," last week's No. 1 album, slides to No. 4, while Kem's "Album II" rounds out the Top 5.
Motley Crue reportedly has filed a lawsuit against NBC, claiming that the network hurt its album sales and concert bookings. NBC allegedly called off the band's planned appearance on "Last Call with Carson Daly" and banned the group from the network after frontman Vince Neil cursed during a live New Year's Eve telecast of "The Tonight Show."
Bobby Brown, in an interview that aired Tuesday (5/24) on "Access Hollywood," said that his wife, Whitney Houston , recently completed her second stint in rehab.
"She's going to start recording," Brown said. "Hopefully, I will get to work with her on this album."
Singer/songwriter Carole King will issue a two-disc live album dubbed "The Living Room Tour" on July 12. In addition to cuts recorded during her 2004 tour, the album also features two previously unreleased songs.
