Stephen Malkmus plots support for 'Face the Truth'

Stephen Malkmus has lined up a relatively light schedule of concert dates to back his upcoming album, "Face the Truth," which will mark his third post-Pavement release.

The singer/guitarist so far is scheduled to play six club dates in June, and will also appear at an Independence Day festival in New York City's Battery Park. That show also features Yo La Tengo and Laura Cantrell.

In a previous announcement on his official website, Malkmus said that he has "very little plans for touring" behind the new album because he's a father-to-be.

"Face the Truth" is due in stores May 24, and features 11 new tracks. As he has been since 2001, Malkmus is still backed by his band The Jicks, which includes bassist Joanna Bolme, drummer John Moen and guitarist/keyboardist Mike Clark.

"There is a lot of talk about 'Steve goes it alone' on new album, etc.," Malkmus recently wrote on his website. "This is not really the case. The Jicks in one form or another make an appearance on every song on 'FTT.' So if you like or hate this CD, I'm not the only one to blame."
