Motley Crue Bassist Arrested In North Carolina
Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx was carted off to jail after performing a Friday night (9/3) concert in Raleigh, N.C., and the Guilford County Sheriff's Department made it known that they're also looking to haul in former drummer Tommy Lee.
The Crue's latest legal woes stemmed from an incident at a 1997 show the band played in Raleigh. During the performance, Sixx allegedly directed racial slurs at a black guard and encouraged the crowd to attack him. Sixx and Lee also allegedly poured a drink on the guard's head.
The incident resulted in the filing of a felony count of rioting and three misdemeanor charges against Sixx. A simple misdemeanor assault and battery charge was filed against Lee, according to local news reports.
Apparently the musicians -- who claimed after the incident that they saw the security guard roughing up fans -- didn't take care of the outstanding warrants, and the Sheriff took notice. After a relatively uneventful performance at the Walnut Creek Amphitheater, Sixx was hauled in. He posted bond on Saturday morning, according to the AP.
Lee escaped the law -- for now -- because he wasn't with the band. He left Motley Crue earlier this year saying he wanted to focus his energies on a reconciliation with his estranged wife, actress Pamela Anderson Lee, and to work on his side project, Methods of Mayhem. Lee served about four months in prison last year for spousal abuse.
Just last month, Sixx was arrested in Las Vegas on charges he incited violence during another performance. The Las Vegas Sun reported that after a pre-show meeting with police, Sixx allegedly told the crowd that the police couldn't reign him in. ''If they don't like it,'' he said, according to the police report, ''we can start flipping over cop cars like we did a couple of years ago.''
After the show, Sixx was booked on provoking a breach of the peace. Two members of the road crew who scuffled with police were charged with obstructing a peace officer, and a third crew member faces charges of battery on a police officer.
While Tommy Lee was serving time on that matter, his lawyers successfully established a plea bargain in Phoenix which eliminated the addition of any jail time in connection with charges that Lee assaulted a security guard who tried to hold back members of the audience when they rushed the stage at the end of a Motley Crue concert there.
