Robert Plant sets up U.S. tour behind forthcoming album

Rock legend Robert Plant will back his first collection of all-new solo material in more than a decade with an early summer run through North America.

The outing--which is booked primarily at theaters and small sheds--kicks off in the Northeast in mid-June, and is currently slated to wrap with a late-July performance in Los Angeles. Details are shown below.

The tour gets underway about a month after the May 10 release of "Mighty Rearranger," the former Led Zeppelin frontman's latest solo set, which features the cut "Shine It All Around."

Backing Plant on the new album is The Strange Sensation, a band he formed in 2001; the group--drummer Clive Deamer (Portishead, Roni Size), bassists John Baggott (Portishead, Massive Attack) and Billy Fuller (Fuzz Against Junk), guitarist Skin (Cast) and multi-instrumentalist Justin Adams (Sinead O'Connor)--first appeared on Plant's Grammy-nominated, 2002 covers set, "Dreamland."

Plant and company wrote and recorded the new album last year in Snowdonia and Solsbury Hill, UK, according to a press release.

"It's always idiosyncratic; we're a weird bunch of characters and we all do stuff in a non standard way," Adams said in a statement. "Robert is an interesting person to work with. He encourages people's individual styles: he's happy for me to bring in unfamiliar North African rhythms and for John to introduce weird electronic sounds; it doesn't happen that often nowadays. Usually, it's one guy at home with a computer. It wasn't like that in '60s and '70s--people were breaking rules and inventing new forms of music. We are closer to that spirit of weird and anarchic ways."
