Allman Brothers to hit the road following New York warm-up
The Allman Brothers Band , who conclude an 10-show run at New York City's Beacon Theatre with a Tuesday (2/22) benefit concert, have begun to map out their performance plans for the coming months.
The group's upcoming schedule is book-ended by the April 15 Wanee Festival in Live Oak, FL, and the June 10 Bonnaroo fest in Tennessee. It also features several May performances with fellow Southern-rock icons Lynyrd Skynyrd.
The Allman Brothers Band's current lineup features Gregg Allman (vocals and keyboards), Butch Trucks (drums and tympani), Jaimoe (drums), Warren Haynes (vocals, lead and slide guitar), Derek Trucks (slide and lead guitar), Oteil Burbridge (bass) and Marc Quinones (congas and percussion). Longtime guitarist Dickey Betts parted ways with the group in 2000, citing "creative differences."
According to the group's publicist, the Allmans, during their 2005 residency at the Beacon, will play to nearly 30,000 fans. Set lists have changed each night to date, and special guests including Little Milton, Hubert Sumlin, Susan Tedeschi, the Asbury Jukes Horns, Ravi Coltrane (son of John), Marc Ford (The Black Crowes) and Rob Barraco (Bob Weir) have jammed with the group.
The band's annual run of shows at the Beacon will conclude with Tuesday's all-star concert to benefit "Big House," the Allmans' Macon, GA, museum. Scheduled to appear with the Allmans at the show are many of the band members' other projects, including Gov't Mule (Warren Haynes), The Derek Trucks Band, Oteil & The Pacemakers and Jaimoe's Jassss Band. Keyboardist Chuck Leavell will also appear at Monday and Tuesday's shows.
