Briefly: R.E.M., Prince, Ozzy Osbourne, Allman Brothers
R.E.M. canceled its Monday (2/21) night show in Sheffield, England when bassist Mike Mills succumbed to flu-like symptoms, but fans were still treated to some of the group's music.
Singer Michael Stipe and guitarist Peter Buck made the cancellation announcement from the stage, and followed it up with a 20-minute acoustic set featuring the songs "The One I Love," "Leaving New York," "I've Been High" and "Losing My Religion," according to a message posted at the band's website.
The group plans to make up the show on June 15, and hopes to resume the rest of its current European tour as planned.
Prince will receive the 2005 NAACP Vanguard Award during this year's awards ceremony.
The presentation will take place March 19 in Los Angeles during the 36th Annual NAACP Image Awards, which will air on FOX on March 25, according to a press release.
Ozzy Osbourne , who was due to perform at a Los Angeles-area tsunami-relief concert Friday (2/18), canceled his appearance that day "due to a family emergency," according to a press release. No further details were provided.
The Allman Brothers Band will finish their annual multi-night run at New York City's Beacon Theatre with a benefit concert that will raise funds for The Big House Foundation, a not-for-profit public charity that's been formed to preserve the group's original home in Macon, GA, which has become a "de facto Allman Brothers Band museum," according to a press release.
The show will take place March 22, the tenth and final night of the group's 2005 run at the Beacon Theatre. Tickets hit the box office Wednesday (2/23), and prices range from $75-$1,000; more information is available at The Big House's
