Mark Chesnutt Takes A Slot On George Strait Festival

Country music mainstay Mark Chesnutt will round out the lineup for this year's George Strait Country Music Festival, joining previously announced acts Tim McGraw , Martina McBride , Kenny Chesney , Lee Ann Womack, and Asleep at the Wheel, according to tour officials.

Chesnutt scored a somewhat unlikely top 20 pop hit in 1999 with his cover of the Diane Warren-penned song "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing," which was also a hit for Aerosmith. Chesnutt's rendition of the song reached No. 1 on the country music charts.

The Strait tour--which goes by the official moniker "Nokia Presents the George Strait Chevy Truck Country Music Festival"--will hit stadiums in 10 cities between April 29 and June 11, and won't venture west of Dallas. Tickets for the tour's opening show in Charlotte, N.C., are scheduled to go on sale March 11, while other onsale dates will roll out through April.

According to tour organizers, this year's "Straitland''--which features vendors, autograph signings, activities, and lifestyle exhibits--will be the largest festival area ever associated with a music tour. Among its features will be a live stage that will showcase up-and-coming artists including Clay Davidson, LACE and others. At each of the tour's stops, "Straitland'' events--admission to which is included in the price of the tickets--will begin at 11:00 a.m. Concerts on the main stage will begin at 1:00 p.m.

During its two previous outings, the George Strait Country Music Festival played to over two million fans and a grossed a total of nearly $66 million, according to the tour's producers.
