Black Crowes expand New York run, book festival shows

The Black Crowes , who last month announced plans to play a string of reunion shows in New York City, have added more dates to that multi-night stand, and have also signed on for two subsequent festivals.

Tickets for all five of the Crowes' initially announced performances at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom (March 22, 23, 25-27) sold out "just minutes after going on sale to the public" on Saturday (2/5), according to a band press release. Based on that demand, the group has now added additional shows on March 29 and 30.

A Saturday (2/12) on-sale is set for the two new shows, though fans will have an early shot at tickets via an Internet presale that begins Thursday (2/10). Details are posted at the group's website.

In addition to the New York shows, the Crowes are now booked to perform April 22 on the main stage at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, and June 11 at the Bonnaroo festival in Tennessee.

The Crowes, led by brothers Chris and Rich Robinson, have not performed live since Halloween of 2001. Soon after, the band announced that it was going on an indefinite hiatus while the Robinson brothers pursued separate solo endeavors.

The Black Crowes' most recent studio album is 2001's "Lions." The concert set "Live" followed in 2002.

The Atlanta-based group burst onto the scene with its 1990 debut, "Shake Your Money Maker," which spawned the hits "Hard to Handle" (originally recorded by Otis Redding), "Jealous Again" and "She Talks to Angels."
