Erasure tacks more shows onto U.S. visit
Erasure , whose new album arrived in stores this week, have added more dates to their spring U.S. tour.
The duo--Vince Clarke and Andy Bell--which previously announced plans to start the run with a five-night stand at New York City's Irving Plaza, has booked five more shows at that venue; tickets for the new shows will hit the box office on Thursday (1/27), according to Erasure's website. The ten-night engagement begins on April 14.
From there, the pair sets out for Chicago, where a second night has been added, then Washington, DC, where a planned second night has been axed. Also new to the itinerary--which stretches into late May--is a stop in New Orleans, and two additional San Francisco dates, which raises to five the number of nights scheduled in the latter city.
The act has also canceled a previously announced stop in Dallas. The itinerary is shown below.
Released on Tuesday (1/25), "Nightbird" features the cut "Breathe," which was issued as a CD-single earlier this month. The group also released a limited-edition single that features three "Breathe" remixes; samples of two of those remixes--as well as a sample of "Gone Crazy," the b-side of the standard "Breathe" single--are posted at Erasure's website.
Erasure has enjoyed moderate success in the U.S., but the group's popularity in the U.K. eclipses American interest, as evidenced by its five No. 1 albums on the U.K. album chart.
The group, which is perhaps best known in the states for the late-'80s hits "Chains of Love" and "A Little Respect," has sold over 25 million albums worldwide, according to its publicist.
Last year, Bell revealed that, during a 1998 bout with pneumonia, he learned he is HIV-positive. In a statement posted at the band's website, he said that he's been feeling fine since then.
"Being HIV[-positive] does not mean that you have AIDS," he wrote. "My life expectancy should be the same as anyone else's, so there is no need to panic, there is still so much hysteria and ignorance surrounding HIV and AIDS. Let's just get on with life i.e. making music, doing a live tour and generally having a good time."
