Alicia Keys, Gretchen Wilson, others join Super Bowl bill
Alicia Keys , Gretchen Wilson , Black Eyed Peas , Kelly Clarkson , John Fogerty and others have joined Paul McCartney on the list of musicians scheduled to appear at this month's Super Bowl XXXIX.
Also slated to appear is The Charlie Daniels Band, which will back Wilson; and Earth, Wind & Fire, which will back Black Eyed Peas. The pairing of the veteran acts with their younger counterparts will take place during a pregame show dubbed "Bridging Generations."
The pregame show will also feature Keys, who plans to perform "America the Beautiful" in tribute to the late Ray Charles. Joining her during the performance will be 150 members from the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, which Charles attended in his youth.
An additional musical segment dubbed the "NFL Tailgate Party" will also precede the game, and will feature performances from Clarkson and Fogerty.
McCartney, meanwhile, will headline the broadcast's halftime show. It will mark his second Super Bowl appearance; he performed during the pregame show in 2002.
Don Mischner Productions--known for its work on the Emmy Awards, Barbara Streisand's Millennium concert and The Kennedy Center Honors--is producing this year's pregame and half-time shows, according to a press release.
The move to the relatively conservative production team follows last year's MTV-produced halftime show, during which Janet Jackson sparked a firestorm of controversy when a so-called "wardrobe malfunction" briefly exposed her left breast.
All of this year's performances will air during Fox Television's broadcast of Super Bowl XXXIX, which takes place Feb. 6 at Alltel Stadium in Jacksonville, FL.
Last year's Super Bowl was watched by a record-setting 144.4 million viewers in the U.S., according to the NFL.
