Site of "Dimebag" Darrell shooting to reopen for benefit

The Columbus, OH, nightclub where Damageplan /Pantera guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott and three others were gunned down Dec. 8 will reopen with a Jan. 14 show to benefit the victims' families.

The benefit will feature performances by Boba Flex and Odius. Tickets, which are on sale now, are priced at $7.

Whether or not the club--which has a 30-year history--will reopen for good is still up in the air, venue owner Rick Cautela said in a recent interview on a Columbus radio station.

"One minute I think that the Alrosa has a future; the next minute I don't feel comfortable about it," he said. "I'm just not OK yet with opening back up."

The full, 11-minute interview with Cautela is posted at the venue's website.

On Dec. 8, Abbott and his new band, Damageplan--which also featured his brother and former Pantera bandmate, drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott--had just begun performing when 25-year-old Nathan Gale rushed onto the stage, grabbed "Dimebag" Darrell and fired multiple gunshots into him at close range. In addition to "Dimebag" Darrell and band security head Jeffrey "Mayhem" Thompson, Gale also shot and killed club employee Erin Halk and audience member Nathan Bray. Gale was then shot and killed by a Columbus police officer.
