Briefly: James Brown, Ludacris, Erasure, Jimmy Chamberlin
Godfather of Soul James Brown , 71, underwent successful prostate cancer surgery Wednesday (12/15), later dusting off an old song lyric and telling reporters, "I feel good."
"Mr. Brown has successfully undergone a localized prostate cancer procedure and is resting comfortably," his urologist, Dr. James Bennett, said in a statement. "We expect a full recovery. With proper follow-up and care, we can also expect a full cure."
"Red Light District," the latest effort from Ludacris , sold 322,000 copies during its first week in stores and tops the latest Billboard 200 album chart. It's the rappers second straight No. 1 album, coming on the heels of last year's "Chicken-N-Beer."
U2 's "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" spends its second straight week at No. 2, while Eminem's "Encore" climbs one spot to No. 3.
"Speak," actress Lindsay Lohan's debut album, enters the chart at No. 4, and the hits compilation "Now! That's What I Call Music Vol. 17" rounds out the Top 5.
Andy Bell of British duo Erasure has revealed that he found out he was HIV-positive in 1998, when he had a bout with pneumonia. In a statement posted on the band's website, he said that he's been feeling fine since then.
"Being HIV[-positive] does not mean that you have AIDS," he wrote. "My life expectancy should be the same as anyone else's, so there is no need to panic, there is still so much hysteria and ignorance surrounding HIV and AIDS. Let's just get on with life i.e. making music, doing a live tour and generally having a good time."
Jimmy Chamberlin Complex, a group led by the ex-Smashing Pumpkins and Zwan drummer, will embark on a brief showcase tour in January to preview the upcoming release "Life Begins Again," due Jan. 25.
The tour visits the Knitting Factory in Los Angeles (Jan. 10 and 24), Mercury Lounge in New York (Jan. 13 and 20) and Double Door in Chicago (Jan. 15).
