Autopsy shows ODB died of accidental drug overdose
Rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard 's death last month was caused by an accidental overdose of legal and illegal drugs, according to autopsy results.
ODB--born Russell Jones--had a lethal mixture of cocaine and the prescription painkiller Tramadol in his system at the time of his death, which has been ruled an accident, according to the New York Medical Examiner's Office.
Jones, a founding member of Wu-Tang Clan , was found unconscious in a New York City recording studio on the afternoon of Nov. 13, the day after he was a no-show for a planned Wu-Tang reunion concert in New Jersey. He reportedly had been complaining of chest pains earlier in the day.
Though his work with Wu-Tang Clan and subsequent solo success fueled his rise to stardom, Jones was better known for run-ins with the law, many of which were drug-related, as well as for his unpredictable behavior.
The rapper fled a court-ordered drug treatment program in October of 2000--a term that stemmed from a 1999 drug possession arrest--and was captured a month later. A two-year stay in prison and at a mental hospital followed.
