Alison Krauss and Union Station kick off support for 'Lonely'
Multiple Grammy-winning bluegrass outfit Alison Krauss & Union Station are set to back their new album, "Lonely Runs Both Ways," with a lengthy tour that gets underway in December.
A week of December gigs are planned in the Midwest and South before the group breaks for the holidays. Two weeks of January dates will follow, and more shows are in the works.
Krauss and her band are also scheduled to perform on the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on Wednesday and Thursday (11/24-25). According to Krauss' publicist, the double-booking marks the only time in 2004 that the same musical act has been featured on two consecutive "Tonight Show" broadcasts. The group will perform "Restless," the first single from "Lonely," on Nov. 24, followed by a Thanksgiving-night performance of "Living Prayer," the closing track on the new album.
"Lonely Runs Both Ways" is the first studio album from Krauss with Union Station since 2001's "New Favorite," which, according to the band's publicist, is nearing platinum status.
"Lonely" features several band originals, as well as songs by Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, John Scott Sherrill and Mindy Smith, Del McCoury, Woody Guthrie, Del McCoury and others.
Krauss won three Grammys in February, bringing her career total to 17, more than any other female artist in the history of the awards.
