Briefly: The Who, Metallica, Dave Matthews Band, Huey Lewis
A new album from The Who , with the working title of "Who2," could be in stores by the spring.
"'Who2' will not be a concept album," Pete Townshend wrote this week in a diary entry on his official website. "That is, in itself, a concept for me. [Frontman] Roger [Daltrey] and I meet in mid December to play what we have written. If we move ahead from there, we may have a CD ready to release in the spring."
Townshend and Daltrey, the group's only surviving original members, began working on new material in 2002. Their first new Who songs in more than two decades, "Real Good Looking Boy" and "Old Red Wine," surfaced in March.
If the new album comes to fruition, "we will tour with the usual band in the first half of 2005," Townshend wrote.
Metallica has announced plans to issue a DVD of the band documentary "Some Kind of Monster" on Jan. 25. The two-disc set will feature seven hours of bonus material not shown in the theatrical release, according to a press release, including: 40 additional scenes, interviews, audio commentaries by the band and directors and more. Additional details are posted at the band's website.
A live recording of Dave Matthews Band 's Sept. 12 benefit concert at San Francisco's Golden Gate Park will be released as a three-CD set.
A release date hasn't been set for the album, which will be sold through the band's website as part of its Live Trax series.
Huey Lewis and the News will mark their 25th anniversary next month by taping a live DVD during a two-night stand in Northern California.
The shows are set to take place Dec. 14 and 15 at the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company in Chico. Ticket information is available at Sierra Nevada's website.
