Briefly: U2, Ja Rule, Wyclef Jean, Steve Barton
Two weeks before it's due in stores, versions of U2 's forthcoming album, "How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb," have surfaced on Internet file-swapping networks.
The album currently is set for release in the U.S. on Nov. 23, but this summer--after a rough tape disappeared from a French recording studio--the band said it might move up the release date if pirated tracks surfaced early.
"R.U.L.E.," the sixth album from rapper/actor Ja Rule , hits stores on Tuesday (11/9).
The first 750,000 copies of the disc will contain a free, two-month subscription to Xbox Live, which allows game players to compete against each other via high-speed Internet connections.
"Wonderful," the album's first single, features R. Kelly and Ashanti.
A concert film culled from Wyclef Jean 's first "Clef's Kids" charity concert, which took place in January 2001, will be issued on DVD on Dec. 7.
Dubbed "Wyclef Jean's All Star Jam at Carnegie Hall," the collection features appearances by special guests Eric Clapton, Stevie Wonder, Destiny's Child, Marc Anthony, Macy Gray, Mary J. Blige and others.
Former Translator frontman/guitarist Steve Barton will drop his debut U.S. solo album, "Charm Offensive," on Feb. 8. Ed Stasium (Ramones, Smithereens) produced the set.
"My favorite singles of all time are 'Good Golly Miss Molly' by Little Richard and 'Strawberry Fields Forever'/'Penny Lane' by the Beatles--I think that with my own stuff I try to use those as a beacon, a map to see where I want to go," Barton said in a statement. "I chose Ed Stasium to produce 'Charm Offensive' because I knew that he could coax the record out of me."
