Eric Clapton readies live Robert Johnson tribute

Eric Clapton , who earlier this year released an album of Robert Johnson covers titled "Me and Mr. Johnson," is set to issue on Dec. 7 a DVD and CD that feature him performing some of Johnson's songs live.

The new DVD/CD, titled "Sessions for Robert J," was recorded this year in four different settings: in rehearsal studios in England and Texas, at 508 Park Ave. in Dallas (where Johnson recorded in 1937), and in a hotel room in Santa Monica, CA.

Clapton's full band is featured on the studio recordings, and the Park Ave. songs are performed by Clapton and fellow guitarist Doyle Bramhall II. Clapton performs alone on the California segment.

The DVD features 19 songs written by Johnson, as well as exclusive interview segments and additional rare footage of Clapton and his band rehearsing.

The CD includes 11 songs culled from the same sessions as the CD. Among the tracks is a version of "Four Until Late" (which Clapton previously recorded as a member of Cream for the 1966 album "Fresh Cream"), and "Ramblin' On My Mind," which marked Clapton's vocal debut as a member of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers in the mid-'60s.
