B.B. King still the king of the road

Blues legend B.B. King continues to call the road his home in the coming months, with an itinerary that will take him to about 40 U.S. cities by the end of January.

Though he's less than a year away from his 80th birthday, King continues to play well over 100 concerts per year. During his 60-plus-year recording career, King--who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987--has released more than 50 albums.

King's latest album of new material, "Reflections," hit stores last year. The set includes King's renditions of three songs previously recorded by Louis Armstrong, as well as songs that have been recorded by Nat King Cole, Sam Cooke, Frank Sinatra, Willie Nelson and others.

King has a major role in the new film "Lightning in a Bottle," which captures the Feb. 7, 2003 "Salute to the Blues" benefit concert at New York City's Radio City Music Hall. Besides King, the bill for the concert included Buddy Guy, John Fogerty, Bonnie Raitt, Mos Def and India.Arie, among many others.

The film--executive produced by Martin Scorsese, Paul G. Allen and Jody Patton, and directed by Antoine Fuqua--tells a history of the blues by juxtaposing performances from the concert with backstage interviews, rehearsals and archival clips.
