Dave Mustaine says current tour is Megadeth's goodbye

After re-forming Megadeth for the release of "The System Has Failed," lead singer/guitarist Dave Mustaine said this is the "swan song" for his Phoenix-based band.

"I would like this to be the instrument that puts Megadeth back in its right position before it goes off into the [Rock and Roll] Hall of Fame, retirement," Mustaine said of "The System Has Failed."

"This is the swan song. This is the retirement farewell tour. It's not gonna be like the KISS farewell tour," which has been running for several years.

Mustaine added that Megadeth's jaunt would last one year.

Mustaine put an end to Megadeth in 2002 after he sustained a freak nerve injury when he fell asleep on his arm. For 16 months, he underwent intensive physical therapy and weight training. Once he felt better, he began writing what would be a solo album. Due to legalities, "The System Has Failed" was changed from "Mustaine over to Megadeth," he said.

"The System Has Failed" entered The Billboard 200 album chart at No. 18, something that pleases Mustaine. But it does not necessarily satisfy the Scottsdale, AZ, resident.

"I'm happy. I'm happy about the attention I've gotten. Am I surprised? Yeah. Am I satisfied? No. I want people to say that not only was this the best Megadeth album, but this was the best Megadeth concert we've seen and go out on a high note."

Mustaine is touring with guitarist Glen Drover, bassist James MacDonough and drummer Shawn Drover.
