LIFEbeat Benefit Concert To Feature 'N Sync, Destiny's Child
'N Sync, Destiny's Child , Wyclef Jean and Monica are scheduled to perform during a Dec. 1 benefit concert at New York's Beacon Theater for LIFEbeat, a not-for-profit HIV/AIDS-awareness organization. Event co-presenter Levi's will webcast the sold-out event live on its website.
Besides earmarking income from ticket sales to LIFEbeat, Levi's has agreed to donate $1 to the organization for every person who logs onto the webcast, up to $50,000. The company has also awarded a $250,000 grant to support LIFEbeat's ''Zero Transmission 2001'' campaign, which aims to wipe out the spread of HIV.
The event is connected to the World AIDS Day 1999 campaign. Billed as ''the only international day of coordinated action against AIDS,'' the goal of the campaign is to open channels of communication and information regarding AIDS.
In related news, Tori Amos will play a rare club date at The Modern in Boston on Dec. 3 to benefit the Massachusetts chapter of the AIDS Action Committee. The Boston-based FNX Radio Network, which streams its feed via its official website, will broadcast the Amos concert live. The network has several affiliates in New England and will sell tickets to the event during an on-air auction on Dec. 1. One pair of tickets will be auctioned off every hour that day, with minimum bids starting at $100.
Amos will also be on the bill for KROQ radio's ''Almost Acoustic Christmas'' on Dec.11 at Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim, Calif. The bill also includes the Foo Fighters, Beck, 311, Fiona Apple, Blink 182, Bush, Oasis, Powerman 5000 and Save Ferris. Ticket onsale information will be announced via the radio station and its official website.
