Bruce Hornsby launches second leg of North American tour
Bruce Hornsby has kicked off his autumn run on the North American theater circuit, the itinerary for which now stretches into mid-December.
The outing, which got underway in Virginia last week, includes recently added stops in San Diego, Las Vegas, Denver, Chicago, Minneapolis, Indianapolis and the Detroit area, among others. Details appear below.
Among the upcoming shows is a three-night run in New York City, each night of which is booked into a different venue; one of those performances--Oct. 28 at Carnegie Hall--will feature Hornsby on his own, sans band.
Hornsby does not work off of a predetermined set list, and fans are encouraged to write down their requests and "get it up on stage during the concert," according to his website.
In August, Hornsby released "Halycon Days," his first album for Columbia Records. The singer/songwriter wrote all 11 tracks on the set, and re-teamed with producer Wayne Pooley; Pooley first worked with Hornsby on 1993's "Harbor Lights."
Guests featured on the album--which is Hornsby's ninth full-length--include Eric Clapton, Elton John and Sting.
Last month, a live DVD titled "Bruce Hornsby & Friends" hit stores. Originally aired as a PBS special, the film captures a 1995 concert in New York that featured guest appearances from Bonnie Raitt, Don Henley, Pat Metheny, Bob Weir and the late Gregory Hines.
Hornsby and his band--The Range--rose to fame in the mid-'80s with their debut album, "The Way It Is." The triple-platinum set spawned three Top 20 hits, including the No. 1 title track, and earned the group the Grammy award for Best New Artist.
