David Byrne plots more U.S. shows as live DVD surfaces
Following his current run through South and Central America, Talking Heads co-founder David Byrne launches the second leg of his North American tour behind his latest solo set, "Grown Backwards."
Byrne's itinerary is currently scheduled to get underway in Miami on Oct. 26, the same day that Rhino releases "David Byrne Live at Union Chapel, London," a live DVD recorded during Byrne's 2002 "Lazy Eyeball" tour. The disc's complete track list is posted at Byrne's website.
So far, Byrne has only revealed four late-October shows for the upcoming North American trek, three of which are set in Florida. Details are shown below, and more dates are expected soon.
Byrne spent most of August and much of September hitting venues throughout the Western U.S. and Canada, and covered much of the Northeast and Midwest during a stretch of May and June shows.
Earlier this year, Byrne issued "Grown Backwards," his first album for Nonesuch Records. The singer/songwriter--who, in the past, wrote material by "starting with improvised textures and grooves and later [added tunes]"--hummed melodies for the new album into a micro-cassette recorder and later unscrambled them to create songs, according to a press release.
"Grown Backwards" features 11 original songs; two opera arias ("Un di Felice" from Verdi's La Traviata and "Au Fond Du Temple Saint" featuring Rufus Wainwright); a cover of the Lambchop song "The Man Who Loved Beer"; and the bonus track "Lazy," which is a rearranged version of a track that Byrne and X-Press 2 first released in 2002.
Byrne's website features streaming samples of all of the tracks on "Grown Backwards."
Joining Byrne on the album--which was co-produced by Byrne and Patrick Dillet--is longtime collaborator Mauro Refosco on percussion and mallet instruments, and Paul Frazier on bass. Others featured include the Tosca Strings from Austin, TX, and Carla Bley's jazz band, which plays on the cut "Empire."
