Keith Urban stretches fall tour as new album top charts
New Zealand-born singer/songwriter Keith Urban has expanded his road plans into mid-December and hit a career high with first-week sales of his latest effort, "Be Here."
Urban moved 148,000 copies of the collection, no doubt helped by the chart dominance of the album's lead-off single, "Days Go By" which topped the Billboard Country Singles chart in recent weeks. The album's sales momentum also earned Urban a No. 3 position on the Billboard Pop Album chart for the week, nestled between both parts of Nelly's two-CD release "Sweat" and "Suit."
Cable channel CMT is on board as the sponsor for the tour, which kicks off Oct. 8 in Muncie, Ind. and currently runs through Dec. 16 in San Jose, CA. Despite moving over 2 million copies of "Golden Road," Urban is staying fairly intimate on the current tour route, playing mostly theatres and a few small arenas.
Urban's road schedule has a break around Nov. 9, ostensibly to allow Urban to attend the CMA Awards in Nashville, where he's nominated for Male Vocalist of the Year.
