Dolly Parton's tour to visit more than 35 cities
Country legend Dolly Parton has firmed up plans for her most extensive tour in more than two decades.
The outing--which will visit a mix of scaled-down arenas and large theaters--launches in mid-October, and is scheduled to run for two months.
According to a press release, set lists for the tour will draw from Parton's entire career, which includes the hits "I Will Always Love You," "9 to 5," "Coat of Many Colors," "Islands in the Stream" and "Jolene."
"The show itself has every color of me in it, from gospel to bluegrass to country to the bigger production numbers, and to the pop hits that I've been fortunate to do through the years," Parton said in a statement. "I think there will be something for everybody. I wanted to do it in a big way so all of us can enjoy it."
A new Parton concert album titled "Live & Well"--which she recorded during her first national outing in 10 years, 2002's "Halos & Horns" tour--is headed for stores on Sept. 15. The album features songs from her recent bluegrass collections "The Grass is Blue," "Little Sparrow" and "Halos & Horns." A separate concert-film DVD with the same title will be issued on the same day, according to Sugar Hill Records.
Parton is also expected soon to issue a new studio set titled "Blue Smoke," but the release date wasn't available at press time.
Parton will warm up for the tour with four benefit concerts at Dollywood, her Tennessee theme park. Proceeds from the shows--two each day on Sept. 25 and 26--will go to the non-profit Dollywood Foundation, which administers educational programs for children in Parton's native Sevier County, TN, and nationwide.
The Grascals--a six-piece bluegrass outfit--will serve as Parton's band during the tour.
