Vote for Change schedule tweaked, ticket info announced

August 19, 2004 11:25 AM
The itinerary and lineup for the Vote for Change tour--six separate treks aimed at motivating voters in states expected to be pivotal in this year's U.S. presidential election--has undergone a few changes, and organizers have unveiled venue and ticket on-sale information.

In one major change, John Fogerty--who was scheduled to perform on a touring group with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, R.E.M. and Bright Eyes--has dropped off the bill. No reason for the change was announced.

Meanwhile, organizers said that Sheryl Crow, Jack Johnson and Crosby, Stills & Nash have been added to some shows. Itineraries for each of the mini-tours, including lineups (subject to change), are shown below.

In addition, organizers have added three new shows--in Seattle, Phoenix and Cincinnati--to the Jackson Browne/Bonnie Raitt/Keb' Mo' mini-tour.

The other tours feature Dixie Chicks and James Taylor; Pearl Jam and Death Cab for Cutie; John Mellencamp and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds; and Dave Matthews Band, Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals, Jurassic 5 and My Morning Jacket.

Tickets for most shows will go on sale on Aug. 21; details (subject to change) are below.

The Vote for Change tours are political fundraisers presented by MoveOn.org to benefit the liberal Political Action Committee America Coming Together, so various federal rules apply to ticket sales, according to organizers. Ticket buyers must:

  • be at least 18 years old.
  • be a U.S. citizen or resident alien.

  • purchase the tickets using his/her own credit card.

  • provide his/her name, address, email address, occupation and employer.
More information is available at the ACT and Moveon.org websites.

Because the extra information must be collected when tickets are purchased, tickets sold by Ticketmaster will be available only via telephone and online; tickets won't be sold at Ticketmaster outlets. (Ticketmaster is liveDaily's parent company.)

Billboard.com reported on Wednesday (8/18) that many of the acts appearing on the five mini-tours will perform at an Oct. 10 finale in Miami. Organizers hadn't confirmed the show--or any specifics--by press time.

In related news, Pearl Jam and Death Cab for Cutie have announced a warm-up gig--unrelated to the Vote for Change tour--that will take place at Boston's FleetCenter on Sept. 28.

"It's been awhile since we've played together, and we were all excited about coming together and playing a special show somewhere before we kick off the Vote for Change tour," Pearl Jam's Mike McCready said in a statement. "Boston is one of our all-time favorite cities to play so it seemed like the perfect place to do that."

ACT bills itself as "the largest voter contact program in history" and seeks to motivate voters to "beat George W. Bush and elect Democrats up and down the ticket in 2004 in federal, state and local elections," according to its website.

MoveOn PAC supports "congressional candidates who embrace moderate to progressive principles of national government," and seeks to "encourage and facilitate smaller donations to offset the influence of wealthy and corporate donors," according to its mission statement.
