Miramax films and Casablanca Records president Tommy Mottola have acquired the rights to develop and produce a Broadway musical based on Pink Floyd [ tickets ]'s 1979 double album, "The Wall."

According to a press release, Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters [ tickets ] will write the show's script, and will arrange and orchestrate music for the stage production. The album, which spawned a feature film of the same name in 1982, features hits including "Comfortably Numb," "Hey You" and "Another Brick in the Wall (Part II)"

"The Wall" is a semi-autobiographical concept album that follows the descent of a neurotic rock star into madness, and--with more than 23 million copies sold--is the third best-selling album of all time.

"Now I can write in some laughs, notable by their absence in the movie," Waters said in a statement.

A target opening date for the production hasn't been announced.
