Norah Jones downsizes plans for U.S. tour

With the kick-off less than a month away, Norah Jones has moved a number of shows on her upcoming tour into smaller venues.

The Grammy-winning pianist/singer's itinerary--which begins on Aug. 12--was originally routed through large amphitheaters, but several shows have since been downgraded to theater-sized venues.

In addition to the venue changes, Jones' itinerary now includes a number of new Canadian stops. Details are shown below.

At press time, a spokesperson for Jones had not responded to an inquiry as to why the venue changes were made. Widespread industry reports have indicated that ticket sales for many tours have been unexpectedly soft this summer, including those for Lollapalooza, which was canceled in its entirety for that reason.

Jones, who recently wrapped up a European outing, is hitting the North American circuit to support her sophomore album, "Feels Like Home," which hit stores in February. The outing will feature her backing group, The Handsome Band.

Before her tour proper gets underway, Jones is scheduled to give a free, July 30 performance at Rockefeller Center Plaza in New York City as part of "The Today Show"'s summer concert series.

Released in February, "Feels Like Home" is the follow-up to 2002's "Come Away With Me." The new set, which features the single "Sunrise," sold more than 1 million copies during its first week in stores, and debuted atop The Billboard 200 album chart.

"Come Away With Me" earned Jones five Grammy trophies last year: Album of the Year, Record of the Year (for "Don't Know Why"), Best New Artist, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance (for "Don't Know Why") and Best Pop Vocal Album.
