Briefly: Phish, The Who, Arthur 'Killer' Kane, Ike Reilly
According to the band's official website--which features a list of stations airing the show--the program features a mix of interviews and concert footage that it calls "unquestionably the best footage ever captured of the band playing live."
The Who 's concert film of its 1970 performance at the U.K.'s Isle of Wight festival will be shown at select Regal Cinemas movie houses on Aug. 9 to usher in the film's DVD release.
A list of theaters showing the film and advance tickets are available at Regal's website.
The "Live at the Isle of Wight" concert DVD will be released on Aug. 10. The DVD will be augmented with a new, 40-minute interview with Pete Townshend, 10 minutes of which will be shown during the theatrical release.
New York Dolls bassist Arthur "Killer" Kane died of complications related to leukemia on Tuesday (7/13) in Los Angeles. He was 55.
According to a statement issued by the band's publicist, Kane--who had been participating in recent New York Dolls reunion shows--learned he was suffering from the disease only shortly before he died.
"It's good to know that he went out on a high point in his musical life, but he will be sorely missed," bandmate David Johansen said in a statement. "His bass playing and presence were the heart and soul of the NY Dolls and the secret ingredient of our sound. Every word uttered by him a guileless gem of wit, wisdom, humor and a glimpse into a realm of perception few people ever experience."
The Ike Reilly Assassination will release a new album titled "Sparkle in the Finish" on Oct. 12.
The set is the follow-up to Reilly's 2001 debut, "Salesmen and Racists," which was a critical favorite.
Reilly and his band are currently touring clubs in the Midwest; details are available on Reilly's official website.
