Huey Lewis and the News make the rounds this summer
Huey Lewis & The News will spend yet another summer performing their hits for U.S. fans.
The group returns to the road on July 16 for its annual warm-weather tour of outdoor venues, and dates so far are scheduled through late September. Tickets for many of the shows are on sale now.
While on tour, Lewis, in addition to singing, may do a bit of campaigning for presidential hopeful John Kerry, if a statement that the singer recently released is any indication.
"I have never before endorsed a presidential candidate publicly, nor do I think it's a generally good idea for celebrities to do so, but I'm endorsing John Kerry for president," Lewis said in a statement posted at the group's unofficial website, HLN.org. "I think the war in Iraq was ill conceived, has been proven to be a big mistake, and it's time for a new team to try to internationalize the fight against terrorism, and restore respect for the United States."
Best known for their '80s-era batch of hits, Huey Lewis & The News have continued to tour steadily over the years. The group's most-recent album is 2001's "Plan B," which is its first collection of new material since 1991's "Hard at Play."
"Sports," released in 1983, remains the group's most commercially successful album to date. It features the Top 10 hits "I Want a New Drug," "The Heart of Rock & Roll," "If This Is It" and "Heart and Soul," and has been certified seven-times platinum, according to the Recording Industry Association of America.
